Frost on the Pumpkin Pie by Diane
It’s a wonder Diane has time to provide us with such a yummy recipe, since she works at two DaVita locations. “I work in two units in Nebraska“, states Diane.
After growing up on a farm in South Dakota, Diane went away to school. She explains, “I graduated from South Dakota State University and then completed a dietetics internship at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.”
A dedicated dietitian, Diane is committed to the patients in her care, especially the youngest ones. “Working with our pediatric population, watching them grow and develop is very rewarding,” Diane shares, adding, “I also enjoy working with the bone management aspect of care. That has been very educational and satisfying.”
Diane became a dietitian because of her interest in health care as well as her desire to work with people. Being a “people person” certainly helps with the challenges involved in encouraging her patients to eat the proper foods. “I try to make in difference in my patients lives by helping to improve their quality of life through good nutrition,” said Diane.
“I think the most challenging part of my job is helping people to see how what they eat affects how they feel. It is also very rewarding to help people to enjoy their favorite foods in moderation,” Diane said.
Diane has been working with the home dialysis unit for 14 years. It became part of the DaVita team in November 2003. “Through DaVita, I have the chance to specialize in renal nutrition and work in a team environment that strives to give top quality care to our patients,” Diane said. “We work with a wide variety of people and I like that.”
No stranger to cold weather, it’s only fitting that Diane’s recipe submission is called “Frost on the Pumpkin Pie,” a perfect dessert for cool fall days ahead.
