Autumn Wild Rice by Chloe from Oklahoma

DaVita dietitian Chloe had a personal connection to dialysis, which clearly had a profound effect on her. “My grandpa was a hemodialysis patient when I was just entering college,” remembers Chloe. “Knowing, first hand, the struggles he encountered opened my eyes to what values and ideals a dialysis center should possess. DaVita shares the same values and ideals that I support and would expect from a facility that lives up to its name, ‘giving life,’” Chloe insists. (The name DaVita is from an Italian phrase meaning ‘he/she gives life.’)

Chloe attended Northeastern State University and Oklahoma State University. “My family is what brought me into the field of nutrition. Early in life, I was inspired by my grandparents to take care of the body you are given. I found out later that nutrition is one the most essential elements to doing just that,” Chloe states.

Chloe appreciates that her job allows her to help people. “I want to be sure that I not only provide the best service as a clinician, but that I make the connections, the lasting bonds, that let your patients know you care for them—the way they think and feel,” she reveals. “The most rewarding element is when I know I’ve made that connection.” Chloe adds, “I want my patients to be able to take me with them—the knowledge and care I provide them and the hopes I have for them.”

Being from Oklahoma, Chloe has a special bond with her patients. “Our center is special because our patients represent my culture, the Cherokee,” says Chloe, adding, “I grew up in this area, so I know just how to get the most of what there is to offer in the Cherokee Nation.”

Chloe’s Autumn Wild Rice recipe features fruits, vegetables and spices that add an exciting taste and texture. Serve it with meat, poultry or fish for a fancy and flavorful accent to your meal that isn’t hard to make.
