Sweet and Tangy Oven-fried Chicken by Kimberly from Georgia

For Kimberly, working as a DaVita dietitian is all about helping people. “Most of our patients are very impoverished,” she explains. “And though it is challenging, it’s great to be able to help people who truly need it.”

Kimberly first became fascinated with food while growing up in Atlanta, Georgia. “I love preparing it, eating it and knowing how it affects our bodies,” she shares. After her formative years, her fascination with food would lead her to a career. “I studied nutrition at Arizona State University, where I received my degree.”

Since joining the DaVita team six months ago, she has found her work as a dietitian both challenging and rewarding. “The most challenging aspect of my job is trying to inspire my patients to do what they need to do:  take their binders and be aware of their food choices,” says Kimberly.

“The most rewarding part of my job is seeing someone finally ‘get it’ after spending months trying to educate and motivate him or her.  It’s great when you get a lab report back and the phosphorus is within normal limits after it has been 8 or higher for a long time.”

One of the things Kimberly enjoys most about working at DaVita is the sense of community—the support she receives from her teammates and fellow dietitians. It’s this support that helps her make a real difference in patients’ lives.

“My goal is to make sure all the patients fully understand the decisions they are making.  Whether they are making food choices or deciding whether to take their binders. I want them to know the immediate and long-term consequences so they can make a fully informed decision. Then I hope to help motivate them to make the right decisions,” reveals Kimberly.
