Cucumber-Carrot Salad by Kim from Michigan

Choosing a career wasn’t tough for Kim – it was simply a matter of “in” versus “out.” As she tells it, “I knew I wanted to be in the health care profession and was going to become a nurse, but I decided that I’d rather deal with what goes in a patient rather than what could possibly come out of a patient.” It’s that kind of fun attitude that has made Kim such a popular dietitian at DaVita for the past 2 years.

After growing up in Flint, Michigan and receiving her degree from the University of Dayton, Kim now finds fulfilling work at her DaVita center in Michigan. “Our patients are from the inner city, so the education level is very low,” Kim explains. “Family support is not there for most of the patients and they have an ‘I don’t care’ attitude. So I find it very rewarding when I can actually get through to even one patient,” she says.

One of Kim’s winning strategies is making her patients’ diets as liberal as possible, while providing the nutrition they need to stay healthy.

She also appreciates the support of her DaVita teammates. “We have an awesome team and that makes our unit really special. You need to have a special place in your heart for our patients, and I see that in all of my teammates,” says Kim.
