Cabbage Rolls made with Turkey by Wendy from Ohio

Which part of the body is most important in helping people with kidney disease? According to DaVita dietitian Wendy, it’s the ears. “As a dietitian, my approach is to stay positive and listen, listen, listen.” She adds, “And as a patient, the single most important thing you can do is listen to your health care team for the plan of care. One challenging aspect of my job is convincing patients that the food they eat really does make a difference on their overall health and well-being.”

As an Ohio native, Wendy has always been interested in how foods andnutrients impact our health. After completing her B.S. at Notre Dame College and her M.S. at Case Western Reserve University, she joined the DaVita team in Ohio. In the year she has been with DaVita, Wendy has found her work to be both educational and rewarding.

“Becoming a dietitian has afforded me the opportunity to learn about food and nutrition at a higher level and then teach this information to others,” Wendy shares. “When I finally reach patients who have been non-adherent in the past, it not only makes me feel good, but they are excited about their progress as well. I like to help patients put the renal diet into perspective without making them feel they have to give up everything they like to eat.”

Here’s a recipe you’re sure to like: Wendy’s Cabbage Rolls made with Turkey. It’s a healthy, great-tasting dish perfect for dinner any night of the week.
