Braised Short Ribs of Beef by Cissy from California
Cissy from California says the most important things a patient can do to improve their health is follow their diet and take medications as their doctor prescribes. To help patients accomplish these goals, Cissy often provides handouts in different languages, and introduces patients to the Diet and Nutrition, plus the Recipe sections of DaVita.com.
Originally from China, Cissy got her B.S. and M.S. degrees in nutrition science at California State University, Los Angeles. “The most challenging aspect of my job is teaching kidney patients about the diet, and especially how to control phosphorus and potassium levels.” But she’s quick to add that, “The most rewarding aspect of my job is when I help my patients get their lab results within the normal range.”
A DaVita dietitian for six years, Cissy appreciates how frequently DaVita updates educational materials and provides information for patients, as well as the many opportunities she has to attend seminars. Cissy says, “Dietitians at DaVita are respected and acknowledged. We have team conferences with our medical directors and lead doctors monthly. And we have informal team meetings with other doctors once we receive our monthly lab results. There is great teamwork and support from all levels of our team.”
Cissy’s recipe for Braised Short Ribs of Beef is an easy-to-prepare dish for your family and friends. And it tastes so good; they won’t guess it’s designed for a kidney-friendly diet.
