Baked Pork Chops by Seema from California

When Seema arrived in the U.S. in 1993, she had already received a degree from her homeland of India. But that didn’t stop her from attending the University of Maryland to earn yet another degree in dietetics.

“I enjoy working with people so I wanted to pursue higher studies that allowed me to interact extensively with others,” shares Seema. “An outpatient dialysis clinic is a great place to help patients make better food choices and prevent various complications.”

Since joining DaVita, Seema has learned that one of the keys to helping her patients is developing a good rapport with them. Once she has gained their trust, her patients are more willing to follow her recommendations. Another key is teamwork.

“Sometimes our job is a challenge, especially when we have patients who have given up and are not motivated to make any changes.” Seema explains, “That’s when the DaVita core value of ‘Team’ comes in handy and the whole facility of teammates works together to help them.”

Helping people is clearly what Seema enjoys most about being a dietitian. “It’s so rewarding to see the happiness on patients’ faces when they get a smiley face sticker for their good lab values. It makes me feel very motivated and fulfilled that I have succeeded in influencing someone’s dietary behavior to promote good health.”

Now you can promote your own good health with Seema’s delicious recipe for Baked Pork Chops.
