11-09-2009 03:48 PMjeffmooreHi Taw, I read your post, and I truly understand exactly what you are going through. Myself as well as other dialysis patients have had a first time, and have learned to adjust, although every patient doesn't adjust in the same frame of time, there are some that find it more difficult than others. I do remember my initital day of treatment, it was like it was just yesterday, because it was so devastating, I will never forget that first day. I even documented it in my book that I self-published earlier this year. Let me tell the reason why I decided to share my experience and knowledge with family members, and other fellow dialysis patients, and of course pending dialysis patients.
The Summary: Living with dialysis treatments proved to be a serious challenge for me. Almost two decades ago, I developed the end stage renal disease, which left me no choice but to accept dialysis as a part of my life. Despite the hassles, I managed to adjust and keep living with a sense of hope. In my pursuit to share with readers and renal patients my story, I self-published through Xlibris Pulbishing the book - My Renal Life - (i know it, i live it). In the pages of my book, the text focuses on three important views - my copings with PKD and dialysis, the renal diet, and ways to prepare renal friendly meals. Readers will learn about my endurances of trials and tribulations coping with life on dialysis. My recollections reflect what I felt under my condition, what I did to keep living and more. My book also contains informative writings that aim to give fellow dialysis patients, as well as pending dialysis patients, insights on the importance of following a renal diet and their medication regiment. The informaton contained in the education section of this book will help the readers grasp an understanding of what foods can benefit or be harmful to the renal diet, which itself is quite complex. And last but not least, a series of recipes awaits renal patients (suited for their families also), who seek the healthiest meals they could prepare and consume in a special bonus section of my book - Welcome to Glo's Renal Friendly Kitchen, I was born and raised in a quaint little town in Louisiana, so I grew up on creole/cajun cuisine, I have always been a very good cook, but I became an even better cook, because of my extensive knowledge of nutritional facts that help me to better understand a renal diet, although it until this day, is still quite a challenge to follow, but I have experimented with different ingredients, and have learned what foods are beneficial to a renal diet.
I hope to hear from you real soon. If you are interested check out my book online at www.xlibris.com, just click on the bookstore and search midway right sidebar - my title - My Renal Life - by Gloria Ann Jeff-Moore, you can read a brief description, along with an excerpt and my author bio. Hit me up at anytime, I am also on facebook. And taw, don't feel like you are being selfish, our love ones that support us dialysis pts, go through this emotionally right along with the pt. So, tell your husband this, which has been my motto - "Don't Let The Disease Control You" "You Control The Disease", and something that I quoted in my book that my mom always said to me from day one of my life on dialysis, (Even though you may have pain that you think you can't bare, just remember, you will never suffer as much as Jesus did), and I have lived by this for a long time, and I have had my share of pain through the year, some very excruiating at times. Please, it would help you could email me, at www.tiffmol@earthllink.net. Take Care and God Bless You
