Talking Stage 4 CKD with a newborn baby

Hello
I just found out last January I have CKD and im 23 years old. But I found out i was pregnant 2 weeks later. I just had my healthy baby girl 5 weeks ago. She came 6 weeks early. But I just found out that im at a stage 4. Kinda scared because i want to see my little girl grow up. but i keep reading stories on here about people that have been doing good for years and having CKD. So it gives me hope. My blood pressure is 154/104. Im just wondering how much longer i have tell i need dialysis? And what is your story?

Thanks
Desirae

Talking Re: Stage 4 CKD with a newborn baby

Hello Desirae and congratulations on the birth of your baby girl!

I was diagnosed CkD this past june and had 40% functionality at that time. Since then I have declined to the point where I only have about 4% function remaining. I started dialysis last week. When I first got the news I was really scared and depressed and had a lot of anxiety of how different my life was going to be.

Once I accepted the fact that my life indeed was going to change I was able to start doing the things I needed to do to take care of myself. One thing I learned rather quickly is that I couldn't go through this alone and although I have family and friends who support me, what really made a difference is when I got on this site and read staories from other CKD patients. Being able to get support and feedback from other people who are going through or have gone through the same things makes a big difference. They are able to relate to everything that you're experiencing and know what to tell you that will help.

I think it is great that you found your way here as well and know that we are all here for one another. As far as how long you have before you start dialysis, it is a descision that your doctor will need to go ove with you. It varies from what I've read here and my experience. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor every single question that comes to mind. It is helpful to go over you labs with your doctor and have them explained to you so you can understand what is going on with your kidneys. Also, for me, I did a lot of my own personal research which I found very helpful.

Take care of yourself and your new baby girl!
God bless,
Dan
