About DaVita
DaVita is a leading kidney care provider, serving kidney patients with high-quality specialized prevention and treatment services. The DaVita patient population includes more than 100,000 patients who have been diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), a group representing approximately one-quarter of all Americans with ESRD and approximately one-third of all Americans receiving dialysis services. In addition, DaVita’s Kidney Education and You (KEY) program helps patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) remain as healthy and active as possible.
Spanning 43 states and the District of Columbia, the DaVita network includes more than 1,300 outpatient facilities as well as acute inpatient units in over 800 hospitals. DaVita’s nationwide network is staffed by more than 29,000 teammates and more than 1,000 medical directors. This comprehensive care team includes nephrologists, nephrology nurses, patient care technicians, pharmacists, clinical researchers, dieticians, social workers, and other highly-trained kidney care specialists.
DaVita’s commitment to quality
DaVita is dedicated to providing the highest quality kidney care. In fact, DaVita exceeds the national average on key measures of quality patient outcomes as reported to CMS. DaVita has the lowest reported mortality of any large provider. DaVita also has the highest percentage of patients with fistulas, the most clinically and cost effective method of vascular access available.
DaVita’s commitment to Medicare modernization
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) recommends that Congress update the Medicare composite rate to keep pace with service delivery costs. DaVita strongly supports the MedPAC recommendations as well as the Kidney Care Quality and Education Act (H.R. 1193 and S.691). With the number of CKD and ESRD patients (currently 20 million and 400,000, respectively) projected to double by the year 2012, these reforms are essential to ensuring that the needs of America’s kidney care patients are met.
