Blueberry Blast Smoothie

Recipe submitted by DaVita renal dietitian Hazel from Texas.

Portions: 4     Serving size: 1 cup

Ingredients

    • 1 cup frozen blueberries
    • 8 packets of Splenda®
    • 6 tablespoons of protein powder
    • 8 ice cubes
    • 14 ounces of apple juice (no added sugar)

Preparation

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Renal and renal diabetic food choices

    • 1 meat
    • 1 fruit, low potassium

Helpful hints

  • Protein will vary depending on the brand of protein powder used and the amount of protein per tablespoon. You may want to adjust the amount of protein powder to provide more or less protein.

I thought this recipe was a good option for a protein drink. I used vanilla protein powder to help with the flavor. I also think this recipe is versitile enough that you could do strawberry or another flavor pretty easily.

Thanks Moderator: Splenda is a low calorie sugar substitute widely available in the US. You can use other sugar substitutes instead. You may need to adjust the quantity based on the sweetening power of the substitute you use.

I like this reciepe but I make mine with sugar and without the protein powder. I am allergic to artifical sweetners so sugar is the only one I use. It's not so sweet made with 3 teaspoons sugar
