Mixed Berry Protein Smoothie

It’s like dessert in a glass, or a creamy, dreamy drink that doubles as a snack. It’s a kidney-friendly recipe for Mixed Berry Protein Smoothie by DaVita renal dietitian, Cynthia from Utah. Berries have made it big on the health scene because of the vitamins and antioxidants they contain that feed our bodies with lots of health-promoting elements. Cynthia’s smoothie not only has berries, it also has good-for-you protein.

Portions: 2     Serving size: 7 ounces


  • 4 ounces very cold water
  • 1 cup frozen, mixed berries (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries)
  • 2 ice cubes, regular size
  • 2 packets Crystal Light® On the Go, raspberry ice flavor
  • 1/2 cup Cool Whip®non-dairy whipped topping
  • 2 scoops ProCel® whey protein powder (13 grams)


  1. In a blender add water, frozen berries, ice cubes and raspberry ice Crystal Light® powder. Blend until slushy and mixed well.  
  2. Add Cool Whip®. Blend well.
  3. Add protein powder. Blend well.
  4. Divide into 2 servings and enjoy one right away. Or freeze and defrost to enjoy later.

    Made this for protein tasting days in the unit. It was a hit!! Easy to make, and can use store brand ingredients.

    We just made this with body fortress vanilla protein powder which provided 26 g protein! Also, we used 1 pkt. strawberry crystal light (phosphorous free) very tasty!
