“I became a dietitian because I love food and I love finding out how food can help people improve their health and well-being.” Those are the enthusiastic words of DaVita dietitian Jennifer, who was born and raised in Walnut Creek, California and attended the University of California at Davis.

Jennifer was initially drawn to the renal field while participating in a two-week rotation during her internship at a DaVita clinic. “It showed me the wonderful role a dietitian can have in a patient’s life, as well as the other way around,” she says.

In her own work, Jennifer tries to make a difference in patients’ lives by giving them the information and tools they need to make good choices and develop good behaviors. She enjoys discovering the unique qualities of the patients and how excited they get about free food made especially for them by their dietitians. My patients love when we cook for them,” she says. “It shows them that food that is healthful for them can taste good, be easy to prepare and accessible.”

Since joining the DaVita team in California two years ago, Jennifer has worked hard to help patients improve their health. She uses an approach of “fact giving and truth seeking.” This allows her to learn more about patients and find out where they are coming from in order to provide more personalized care.

The DaVita culture also offers Jennifer a lot of dietitian support and resources. “For a dietitian, this is one of the most rewarding and opportunity-filled positions out there. I am blessed to have this chance to be part of the DaVita dietitian team.”
