Persian Chicken Salad by Leanna from Pennsylvania

I became a dietitian because I love food!” exclaims DaVita renal dietitian Leanna from Pennsylvania. She always loved being in the kitchen as a kid and says it’s still one of her favorite places to be. “I have a passion for healthy lifestyles and food is a big part of this,” shares Leanna.

After graduating from Bucknell University with her undergrad and completing her master’s degree at Marywood University, both in Pennsylvania, Leanna began seeing patients. She noticed that many of her patients had chronic kidney disease (CKD) and Leanna wanted to learn more about the disease and how it affect people’s life. This curiosity led her into the renal field. 

Leanna encourages and empowers her kidney patients to make positive changes to improve their health and well-being. The most rewarding aspects of Leanna’s job are hearing her patients’ life stories, and making an impact in their lives. 

When asked to provide her best advice to people with CKD, Leanna answers, “Learn about your health and make an action plan. Talk to your health care team and ask lots of questions. Take information on television, the internet and magazines with a grain of salt.”
