Helpful hints

  • Increase protein powder to 2 scoops for a higher protein smoothie.
  • Omit protein powder for a low protein smoothie (3 grams per serving).
  • Pasteurized egg whites are recommended to avoid the risk of salmonella. Look for refrigerated egg whites in a carton in the dairy section, or dried egg whites in the baking section at your local grocery store.

I need to keep protein under 40 g and phosphorous under 800. I currently have not yet had any trouble with potassium, in fact I still take KlorKon 10 every day, twice a day. Dietitian comment: This recipe is more suitable for a person on dialysis who needs more protein. There are similar beverages you could try but omit the protein powder or adjust it to meet your meal plan.

I love that you have the whey smoothies but I need to hnow is it ok to use them to replace more 2 meals a day to lose weight? Dietitian comment: No it is not recommended because the smoothies do not provide other nutrients your body needs. Supplements designed for weight loss have added nutrients.

Served this to the patients in our clinic and they loved it. Only problem is the portion size. The recipe made 3 cups of smoothie, but serving says 1/2 cup and it only serves 3. What is the correct portion size please? Moderator: The actual portion size for the nutrients shown is 1 cup per serving. It has been corrected in the recipe. Thanks Lori!

I am a dietitian with Davita. I made this for my patients and most of them loved it. I thought it was a bit too sweet, but I used a strawberry flavored protein powder which was sweet on its own.

Taste delicious and acceptable to me. the mix of egg white blended with the strawberry reduce the obvious taste of the protein powder. It is refreshing and good with our florida climate.
