Apple Butter

Apple Butter for a delightfully sweet treat you don’t have to feel guilty about. DaVita renal dietitian, Cristin from Pennsylvania, introduces her easy-to-make, low-potassium recipe packed with the flavor, fiber and wholesome goodness of apples.

Portions: 64     Serving size: 1 tablespoon

Ingredients

  • 4-1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. Mix ingredients in a small roasting pan.
  3. Bake until brown and thickened (approximately 2 hours), stirring occasionally during baking.
  4. Pour into a sterile container and refrigerate or freeze for later use.
