Herb Sauce Mix

Spice up your main course using this kidney-friendly recipe for Herb Sauce Mix. The mix includes herbs and spices including black pepper, garlic powder, celery salt, celery seeds, dry mustard and paprika.

Portions: 6     Serving size: 1/2 tablespoon of mixture for each serving of chicken, fish or pork.


  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons celery salt
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 2 teaspoons paprika


  1. Mix all ingredients and store in an airtight container. 
  2. To prepare sauce for one portion of meat, melt 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or olive oil and add 1/2 tablespoon of herb sauce mix.
  3. Pour over meat and bake in the oven or use as a sauce topping on chicken, fish or pork.

  • For variety, try substituting other spices like chili powder, onion powder or poultry seasoning.

I liked this sauce. I left out the celery salt and used unsalted butter to cut the sodium count. Still tasted great!
