Marinade for Grilled Chicken

Why waste extra money on high sodium commercially prepared marinade when you can add 5 common ingredients to create a low-sodium kidney-friendly marinade for chicken or your favorite poultry. DaVita renal dietitian Dawn shares her easy recipe for Marinade for Grilled Chicken.

Portions: 8     Serving size: 2 tablespoons

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Preparation

  1. In a small bowl combine marinade ingredients.
  2. Pour over your favorite chicken pieces and marinate in the refrigerator for 1 to 4 hours.

  • *Nutrient analysis is for the ingredients in this recipe. The amount actually absorbed by the chicken is approximately 25%, but this may vary depending on how long you marinate it, the container size, and if you leave the skin on or remove it. Estimated calories absorbed by  3 to 4  ounces chicken is 32 and 3.5 grams of fat.
  • Always discard extra marinade unless you plan to cook it to boiling point.
