Deviled Green Beans

Add a flavor punch to your next meal with this kidney-friendly recipe for Deviled Green Beans. Yellow mustard, black pepper and Worcestershire sauce turn tame green beans into a devilishly delicious treat.

Portions: 4     Serving size: 1/2 cup


  • 2 cups frozen green beans
  • 5 teaspoons unsalted margarine
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned bread crumbs


  1. Prepare green beans as directed on package.
  2. Make a sauce by mixing together 2 teaspoons melted margarine, mustard, pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Heat in microwave for 30 seconds.
  3. Toss sauce with hot cooked green beans.
  4. Mix remaining margarine (melted) with bread crumbs. Sprinkle on top of the beans and serve.

This is a great recipe for everyone, even if they are not on dialysis. It's a great basis for your own personal variations in the seasonings: more or less pepper, brown or Dijon mustard instead of yellow, or your favorite sodium-free herbs / herb blends. It's a much more healthful alternative to the ubiquitous, sodium-ridden Thanksgiving "green bean casserole" that will be on so many tables this holiday season! Love it!
