Redwoods Summer Associate Program
Job Responsibilities
MBA Summer Associates lead projects for senior management in a variety of operational and strategic initiatives that have company-wide impact. They report to a vice-president or senior director, start in June, and spend 10 weeks with DaVita. Summer Associates take on significant accountability and ownership and often travel nationwide for project development and research. Summer Associate then synthesize a variety of analyses into effective and successful implementation strategies and present their results to a panel of vice-presidents. Previous projects include:

DaVita/Gambro Healthcare revenue operations department Integration

DaVita Clinical Research Strategy

Lifeline (Vascular Access Centers) business development

Physician Services strategy

Develop/implement operational improvement/redesign projects for DaVita Rx (pharmacy business)

Chronic Kidney Disease strategy
-
Dialysis operations process analysis and creation of “clinic toolkit”

Recruiting strategy and marketing analysis

Divisional market analysis
Summer Associates also spend a significant part of their summer getting to know DaVita, from its functional areas and field operations to all levels of leadership. 2007 activities included:

A three day Summer Associate Orientation with executive presentations on corporate departments

"Reality 101" (an opportunity to experience the realities of the dialysis center setting

"Academy" (two day DaVita teammate leadership development training)

Fun social activities including happy hours home office managers, directors and VPs; home office summer social events

Exclusive Meetings with including only the summer associates and:

Summer Associates have also taken advantage of DaVita’s open culture and meet with other executives they are interested in learning from. Upon successful completion of the summer, Summer Associates ideally are offered a position in the Redwoods Rotational Program.
Qualifications/Skill Requirements (No health care background required):
- Outstanding leadership skills
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated skills to lead projects
Strong analytical/financial skills
Ability to analyze short and long term needs - Demonstrated persuasive communication skills
- Prior management consulting experience a plus
