We believe that anyone, in any role, can be a leader. Management is a business skill, but leadership is a human skill. Becoming a leader is a journey that requires both the appetite and the proper tools and guidance to learn about oneself. Through DaVita University, our multi-tiered leadership-development program, and other initiatives, we have helped thousands of people—who had the drive—learn, grow and become stronger citizens within DaVita, at home and in their communities.

In addition to management training courses, DaVita offers our clinical teammates multiple learning opportunities, such as the Preceptor program, that are guided by an expert who gives practical training and an immersion into adult learning concepts. Another example is our FAST class, which gives new facility administrators the mentoring necessary to lead their dialysis center successfully.

Beyond the Classroom

Beyond the Classroom

One way we try to help our executives be better and more-compassionate leaders is through our mandatory Reality 101 clinic-immersion program. This full-day course exposes new executives to the broad range of challenges our clinical teammates face on a daily basis.

The Redwoods Program

More than 433 DaVita teammates have grown within the company through the Redwoods Leadership Development Program. The program is recognized by top undergraduate and business schools around the country. In 2014, the program expanded to include HealthCare Partners teammates. Summer Associate interns worked at HealthCare Partners locations and the Resident and Analyst Development programs performed site visits with HealthCare Partners in Torrance, California.

Redwoods Resident Program

The 10-month, post-MBA Redwoods Resident program, which develops DaVita leaders in corporate and field roles across the organization, consists of on-the-job and classroom learning, mentorship and a leadership practicum, often in one of DaVita’s dialysis centers. Current DaVita teammates with similar qualifications to those we recruit from MBA schools can be nominated for this program.

Redwoods Analyst Development Program

The Redwoods Analyst Development Program, which trains post-undergraduate teammates to be entry-level analysts in various corporate functions, starts with intense up-front training and provides ongoing development and opportunities to work cross-functionally. Current DaVita teammates with similar qualifications to those we recruit from undergrad schools can be nominated for this program.
