Ingredients
- 2 cups apple
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon crushed bay leaf
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1/3 cup water
- Dash of pepper
- 5 cups shredded cabbage
Preparation
- Keep peel on apple. Core and cube the apples to make cups. In a 3-quart pot stir melted butter, brown sugar, cloves, bay leaf, vinegar, water, and pepper.
- Add apple and cabbage, stirring to coat. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- For crisp cabbage, cook 15 minutes, for tender cabbage cook for 30 minutes.
Helpful hints
- Three medium apples should give you 2 cups cubed.
- One cabbage should yield more than enough for 5 cups this recipe calls for.
