Helpful hints

  • Adjust herb seasoning blend to your taste. Flavors will intensify after 4 hours, especially if the seasoning blend contains garlic.
  • Serve dip with low-sodium crackers or lower potassium vegetables such as raw bell peppers, carrots, cauliflower, celery, and cucumbers.
  • Add a spoonful to cooked vegetables for a flavor boost.

Easy Salt-free Seasoning Dip

Why is this called salt-free if it calls for something salty like Worchestershire sauce? Reduced sodium is only 30% less, not sodium-free, according to the Lea & Perrins website. I'm trying to find a recipe I can take to a friend's house who is sodium-free, which is why I'm asking. It's tough to find and I'm a bit disappointed. Dietitian comment: Salt-free refers to the salt-free seasoning blend. You can omit the reduced sodium Worcestershire sauce but even with it the recipe has only 20 mg sodium per serving, which is very low.

I am on a no dairy diet as I am Hyper-calcemia, phase 3 CKD. Would Miracle Whip salad dressing work in this dip rather than the cream and yogurt? Dietitian comment: Yes but the sodium content is higher. If available, use a low sodium mayonnaise or salad dressing.

Why would the Dr. warn you to stay away from Mrs Dash? That and dairy restrictions will keep me away from this one. Dietitian comment: Mrs. Dash salt-free herb seasoning blends contain only 10 mg potassium per 1/4 teaspoon and less than 1 mg phosphorus. The new line of Seasoning packets require further investigation by reading the ingredients. Unfortunately the potassium is not on the label and some of the seasoning packets contain potassium chloride, very high in potassium.
