What's everyone saying?
I thought tomato products and potatoes were bad for the kidneys. My husband is stage 4, not on dialysis yet. Is that why? Also my husband was given potatoes at the nursing home, the dietitian said it was instant potatoes, it has no potassium so it was alright to eat it. Dietitian comment: Most kidney patients can include small amounts of tomato and potato--it's the amount and frequency and lab treads that matter most. For example, this recipe has 1-1/4 ounce of tomato sauce per serving.
After reading the comments about quantities of certain ingredients, I prepared this recipe with these changes - 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar, 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder, 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder. Both my wife and I enjoyed it, and she is not a great meat eater. Give it a try!
The 1 Tablespoon of garlic powder called for in this recipe equals 24 cloves! Look it up! This recipe was so aromatic even the neighbors were not attacked by vampires the night I made it. If you must make this also too sweet recipe, may I suggest stirring in a teaspoon of ground Antacid, as both I and the spouse needed it. I very much hate to be negative, but felt it necessary, as I'd want to be warned myself.Dietitian comment: Grandpa Joe must love garlic! We have added a helpful hint to adjust the garlic and onion powder if you do not like these strong flavors.
for me meat loaf is half ground fresh chuck half lean ground pork a quarter pound shreaded carrots a large ground onion half cup oat meal 2 large eggs blend make up in single servings in cup cake tins. extras can be frozen for later use for snacks or as a meat ball sandwich.
Neither my husband nor I cared for this. It was too sweet, and didn't have a lot of flavor. IF I ever make this again, I will use actual onions and garlic, and add some bell peppers or something and greatly reduce or totally eliminate the brown sugar. Not a fan of sweet meatloaf. :(
