Helpful hints

  • Look for reduced sodium broth containing 500 milligrams sodium or less per 1 cup serving. Avoid low sodium broths and bouillons containing potassium chloride—it’s very high in potassium.

Like several others we popped it in the crock pot and had it on chore day. What a great meal to come in and have all ready at the end of the day. I did add some thyme, as it is my favorite addition to most meat dishes. As suggested, I think next time we will throw a few mushrooms in to replace the celery. We had some of the broth left over so I recycled it to a nice little veggie soup the next day.

I made this for my very picky husband. He loved it. The meat is very tender and the veggis very tasty. I added bell pepper,mushrooms and Mrs. Dash.

Braised Short Ribs of Beef

This was very good as written but I made some changes. Put some Mrs. Dash in the flour for taste. Eliminated beef broth, used one up of no sodium chicken broth instead, even with only cup it was watery so it got fixed with some cornstarch mixed right in the pot. Cooked it in crockpot and eliminated sautéing the veggies...just dumped them in the pot for 6 hrs on low...was so tender! Served over some rice it's a great meal. We also steamed broccoli and cauliflower to top it off.

Made this recipe (minus the celery) and it was delicious. Even used the crockpot after braising the meat instead of putting it in the oven.

Braised Short Ribs of Beef

I made this for my mom and the entire family loved it. Although it takes a while to cook, the recipe is worth it. The meat is super tender and still flavorful. My mom has problems digesting with a sensitive stomach and acid reflux but because the meat is very tender, she was able to keep the food down without any trouble. Highly recommend.

I like to make my own chicken, vegetable, and beef broths and then either freeze or can them. That way I know how much sodium and other flavoings are added and it really isn't hard to do.

excellent...I did not have beef broth so used water instead; also added some paprika and Mrs. Dash to the flour. After browning ribs, added a little wine to the pan to deglaze. Put ribs and vegetables in crockpot for 4-5 hours on low. Served with egg noodles. Very flavorful.
