I only use Stevia as a sweetner. It is natural and not chemically made as most artificial sweetners are. I try to avoid putting a bunch of chemicals in my body by using better choices. I am diabetic also, but would choose to use sugar over the chemicals. I am just a little confused to see Splenda referred to so much in your recipes. Dietitian comment: Many of our recipes were developed before stevia was available. We encourage people to use their preferred sweetener.

i need to know what type of protein powder to get .it says protein but what kind. Dietitian comment: Whey protein tends to be lower in potassium and phosphorus. Look for the product with lowest amount of these minerals for the amount of protein you get. Since protein powders have different size scoops and different amounts of protein try to adjust the amount you use to be close to the amount of protein per serving in the recipe.

This is a great recipe for people who can eat artificial sweeteners. I am allergic to them. And also, I would think that the protein powder is something to think about seeing as how someone with CKD is only allowed about 45 grams a day. I don't know how much protein is in the powder as I have never used it. But I think I would save my allowance from actual food rather then a powder.

Why do I have to put Splenda instead of real sugar? Our Nephrologist said Splenda /other fake sugars are very bad for ckd. Perhaps only for diabetic? Also about protein powder? What about dairy free? We can have rice or almond milk, could we substitute? Dietitian comment: You may substitute sugar or desired sweetener for Splenda. If you use rice or almond milk substitute for the apple juice. Both milks are still low in protein but you can omit the protein powder if you want a lower protein beverage.

Why do I have to use protein powder? I was expecting something different, I guess, when I looked at these recipes. I'm not looking to add to protein.

Could some one put a name to the protein powder or brand kind? Dietitian comment: Whey protein is usually lower in phosphorus and potassium compared to soy protein. Some of the brands used in other recipes include EAS 100% whey protein powder, Procel, Prosource, and Resource Beneprotein. Always read the label for nutrients as manufacturers change product formulas and this can impact the nutrients.

I just made this & I cannot have milk so I didn't use milk & I feel it is too sweet & I only used 4 packets of sweenter. I also used frozen blueberries & sugarless Apple juice. My phosphorus tends to run high so I shouldn't even had this but I'm tired of drinking the same liquids & need to put more liquids in my diet. Thanks

This sounds like a tasty smoothie. I don't feel the need of sweetner but I wonder about adding rice dream and elminating the ice cubes. How would this change it. Moderator Comment: Sounds like it will work, but suggest cutting the apple juice down to 1 cup if you want to keep carbs similar.

I thought this recipe was a good option for a protein drink. I used vanilla protein powder to help with the flavor. I also think this recipe is versitile enough that you could do strawberry or another flavor pretty easily.

I leave in South Africa and would love to use this recipe however I dont know what Splenda is. Please advise me. Thanks Moderator: Splenda is a low calorie sugar substitute widely available in the US. You can use other sugar substitutes instead. You may need to adjust the quantity based on the sweetening power of the substitute you use.

I like this reciepe but I make mine with sugar and without the protein powder. I am allergic to artifical sweetners so sugar is the only one I use. It's not so sweet made with 3 teaspoons sugar
