Helpful hints

  • Add one or two ice cubes to make smoothie thicker. Add an extra ice cube if you prefer a milkshake consistency or put in the freezer for five minutes before drinking.
  • Ask your dietitian about recommended protein powder brands.
  • If the protein powder sticks to the side of the blender, turn if off and use a spatula to loosen it from the sides. Replace lid and keep blending until smooth.

Can you use real pineapple instead of sherbet? Dietitian comment: Yes you can try it. It will not be as sweet but you can add sweetener of choice to increase sweetness.

can you use regular pineapple instead of protein powder? Dietitian comment: Yes but the protein content will be much lower. That's fine if you are limiting protein.

I have recently found DaVita and I am impressed with the information I have found here. I look forward to attending a class in Florida when I arrive about 11-7-2014. Dietitian comment: Thanks for your feedback and hope you enjoy the recipes. I know you will learn a lot in the Kidney Smart class.
