I do not live in the US so several of the items in this recipe are not available in my country. I think the recipes should be more generic. And why add flavouring if you have berries? I do not like cold drinks so assume the ice cubes are optional?Also, you need a vegetarian cookbook as a number of my go to foods {multi grain, rye, bananas, beans, citrus, (for winter health...it is winter here),kiwi fruit (for regularity), spinach, tomatoes,and of course yougurt} this is a huge transition that I am struggling with to even conceptualise...my surgeon has just told me that my kidneys are not functioning normally, no GFR inf, but asked to get off my arthritus meds and use tumerick instead! Dietitian comment: You may want to meet with a dietitian who can give guidance on ingredients and on your individualized dietary needs. What about using plant-based protein? Dietitian comment: The plant protein powder should contain a complete essential amino acid profile comparable to whey protein. Soy protein is one example. Some plant-based protein supplements are higher in potassium and phosphorus compared to whey protein. Work with your dietitian to be sure the product you use is kidney-friendly.

I have read that whey is not a great ingredient for CKD patients. I see it in recipes here. an comment: Whey is a high value protein. If you are limiting protein in your diet you must calculate the added whey protein into your daily plan.

I thought people with CKD and diabetes should watch how much protein they each. Why the protein powder? Dietitian comment: Even with lower protein goals it's important to consume 50% of the protein allowance from high quality protein sources. This beverage provide 6 grams of this type of protein. You could omit it if you prefer getting protein from other sources but still want to enjoy the smoothie.

We just made this with body fortress vanilla protein powder which provided 26 g protein! Also, we used 1 pkt. strawberry crystal light (phosphorous free) very tasty!
