Helpful hints

  • Select almond milk or other milk substitute without phosphate additives. Check labels and ingredient list or ask your dietitian about recommended products.
  • When soda is added mixture will foam, so add slowly and stop until bubbles reduce if needed to prevent bubbling over.
  • A & W® diet root beer and Barq's®  diet root beer are acceptable brands of root beer for a kidney diet because there are no phosphate additives.
  • If Syntrax Nectar® whey protein powder is unavailable, ask your dietitian for an appropriate substitute. EAS®  100% whey protein powder is an option and provides approximately 13 grams of protein per scoop.
