Helpful hints

  • Use sugar-free or fat-free whipped topping, low fat cream cheese and sugar-free jelly to reduce sugar and fat.
  • Comet® cones, 4-1/2 grams each, were used in the nutritional analysis . If sugar cones or wafer cones are used, the calories, carbohydrate and sodium may be higher.
  • Change the flavor of the cones by using a different type of berry and jam, such as raspberries or strawberries.
  • If frozen blueberries are used, thaw before adding to the cream cheese and whipped topping.

Blueberry Cream Cones

Is there any kind of ice cream that is acceptable for a dialysis patient? Dietitian comment: Many dialysis patients can include 1/2 cup dairy each day[INVALID]and this includes ice cream. Ask your dietitian about your individualized guidelines for dairy. Other frozen dessert options include sorbet, sherbet, popsicles; Dairy-free frozen desserts may also be an option. Check the ingredients and see if potassium is listed on the label.

Have not this, but sound really good. Could I substitute whipped Rich Whip for the whipped topping and Tofutti Better then a cream cheese for the cream cheese for non dairy. Dietitian comment: Check the substitute products to be sure they do not contain phosphate additives. Otherwise these subs are ok.

We love this one, I made these for my grandparents but my hubby and kids love them too. I used these mini cones and could make a ton. They were the perfect size, I would think the small cones would be too much. Have done blueberry and strawberry both great.

Anyone else had trouble with thickening of this recipe? My batch ended up with a cheesecake like consistency. Not bad (if you like cheesecake like me), but definitely didn't turn out like ice cream.

Are we talking a Cool Whip type topping?? I can't rate this because I'm not sure what to use...but at first look it seems like it should be a 5. Dietitian comment: We recently changed to a pressurized topping because Cool Whip now has phosphate additives. We did learn about a frozen product called Tru-Whip which is phosphate free if you are able to find it.

These are great! My granddaughter (11) loves them too! I buy frozen fruit, it's the only way I can get a taste of it cold. You have another A+ recipe.

I FEEL there is a step missing here? Whip the cream cheese till fluffy, then add the fruit and jam to the whip cream and put into cones...never mix the cream cheese and whip cream mixture together? Never combine the two? Just put them two things separately into the cones and freeze? who wants a mouth full of frozen cream cheese? Dietitian comment: Actually the fruit, preserves and whipped topping are folded into the cream cheese. Thanks for calling this to our attention.
