I keep seeing cool whip but don't see it in the ingredients? Do i need cool whip and if so please explain. Dietitian comment: The original recipe contained Cool Whip, but the manufacturer reformulated the produce and added phosphate additives. As a result we revised the recipe to have fresh whipped cream. There is a newer frozen dessert topping called Tru-whip that can be used as it does not have phosphate additives.

This sounds good, but is there a substitute for the sweetened condensed milk?

I'm very fussy when it comes to key lime and lemon meringue pie. This recipe is pretty good, I made it for my wife and she had it eaten by the end of the week.

If using Splenda baking sugar, or baking sugar with Stevia would that make it acceptable for diabetics, or is there too much sugar in canned evap. milk? Moderator comment: Unfortunately most of the sugar is in the condensed milk. If you google low sugar key lime pie you can find several recipes that use gelatin, low calorie sweetener and cream cheese instead of condensed milk.

Corrections: It should read 5 tbls. butter not 1 stick, 14oz can of condensed milk they do not come in 13oz cans and Cool Whip comes in 8oz not 9oz containers. The recipe is one of my favorite desserts and so easy to assemble. I add an extra couple of shots of real Key Lime Juice.

genuine key lime pie is yellow, not green and uses key lime juice not Persian lime juice, at any rate the green food coloring can be eliminated. Also fresh eggs, separated and egg whites beaten with 8 Tbsp of sugar are used instead of cool whip in a genuine recipe.

I made this for Father's Day and it was terrific! It was light and creamy. The lime flavoring was good also. I'll definitely make this again.
