Helpful hints

  • Look for boneless salmon to keep phosphorus and calcium lower. Compare sodium content on cans and foil pouches and choose the lower sodium container. Better yet, cook extra fresh salmon for dinner and save leftover for this recipe.
  • This recipe can be prepared ahead of time. Just cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Low-calorie mayonnaise can be substituted for regular mayonnaise, or reduce amount to 1-1/2 tablespoons (unless you need the extra calories).
  • Additional bread options include cracked wheat, French, Italian, light rye, pita or sourdough, or choose a wrap.

Sounds the same as the recipe I used long before being diagnosed with CKD. Yummy! With CKD non-dialysis, can we add bread crumbs or coat patties with crumbs and fry with non-stick spray? Nice to have a hot meal. Dietitian comment: Great idea to serve as a hot patty. I recommend unseasoned bread crumbs as the sodium content is lower compared to seasoned bread crumbs.

My mom has been making salmon salad for me because it's my favorite. I started dialysis two weeks ago and tried this recipe...Very yummy and easy to make for lunch! It's also flexible so you can add ingredients or decrease mayo, etc.
