Hi, can I ask to explain me or direct to place I could find explanation what do Renal choices & Carbohydrate choices stand for? I mean numbers ... ? Dietitian comment: The Renal Food Choices is a system for counting servings from different food groups as a way of planning meals to stay within certain nutrient goals. It focuses on protein, sodium, potassium and phosphorus. It usually requires instruction from a dietitian to learn how to use and to set up the meal plan. Carbohydrate Choices are used by people with diabetes to track carbohydrate content of meals and snacks. For example if your goal is to have 45 grams of carb in a meal it is equal to 3 carbohydrate choices. The person can select 3 foods that contain carbohydrate--like a piece of fruit, a slice or bread and a serving of pretzels.

I am addicted to this! It is awesome, I can't wait to make it for my husband, although he has no kidney problems he likes to eat what I have. Thank you so much for this site, it took the fear out of what to eat now.

This is a great recipe for everyone, even if they are not on dialysis. It's a great basis for your own personal variations in the seasonings: more or less pepper, brown or Dijon mustard instead of yellow, or your favorite sodium-free herbs / herb blends. It's a much more healthful alternative to the ubiquitous, sodium-ridden Thanksgiving "green bean casserole" that will be on so many tables this holiday season! Love it!
