Helpful hints

  • Compared to most vegetables, corn is higher in phosphorus. A 1/2 ear portion is acceptable for a low phosphorus kidney diet.
  • Use fresh corn instead of frozen when in season.

Grill Thyme Corn on the Cob

Dr told me avoid corn on the cob, that its very high in potassium bad for kidneys. I have 20% kidney function but not on dialysis. that if I must eat corn, do not eat on the cob, eat drained canned corn. Preferably not any corn. Confused. Dietitian comment: One medium ear of corn has 243 mg potassium. If you eat 1/2 ear the potassium is 122 mg which is low potassium. 1/2 cup canned corn on the cob has 108 mg potassium.
