Helpful hints

  • Use this gravy instead of canned cream soup, as the sodium content is much lower. Change the flavor by adding various herbs and spices.

Hi I have a question about this recipe in the ingredients list 1 tablespoon celery then reading down to directions say chop onion and celery ? should this be 1/4 cup same as onion ? or perhaps this was a typo. thank you for your. I would like to make this for pot pie recipe. Dietitian comment: No the amounts are correct--1 tablespoon celery and 1/4 cup onion.

I have been using cream of mushroom or chicken and feeling guilty because of salt. No more! and i'm going to try it over steak.

I made this gravy to accompany chicken breasts. My husband thought it was the best thing I have made in more than 30 years, Renal diet or before ESRD. I've made it for other foods as well. Always a hit!!

I don't use celery and use 50/50 rice milk and non-dairy creamer and it works well.

I used this recipe to redo a casserole my son loved growing up. I tripled it , and i used Coffee Rich , which requires dilution with water. Instead of the water , i added chicken broth to simulate cream of chicken soup. It worked like a charm. Even non ESRD eaters liked it !

Using all 6 portions only gives 15 tablespoons ... not enough for any casserole or pot pie.
